Watch out for more updates to come.

And the winner is…

Last month, me and my fantabulous crit partner Jus Accardo held an epic contest in which the winner would receive ebook copies of all of our books, mega swag packs, and will get to create a character to be used in the super secret project Jus and I are writing together. We’re a few days late, but Random.org has finally chosen our winner.

Congratulations to Sandra of JeanzBookReadNReview!

We will be contacting you with instructions on how to claim your prize. Thank you to everyone who participated and be on the lookout for another major contest from me coming this next week when FLAWED goes on tour!

An announcement…and an epic joint contest!

2012 has been crazy good to me. FLAWED, a book that’s very close to my heart, has been released into the world—and people seem to really like it! While I’m gobsmacked by the reactions I’ve gotten, I’m most grateful for the readers I’ve met. That you guys believe the stuff I bleed onto the page matters means a lot to me. And because I’m me, all these fluffy feelings can only mean one thing: I’m giving stuff away!

But first, an announcement that’s pretty freaking awesome.

Awhile back, I called Jus Accardo with the lyrics to a song I’d just heard and the seed of what I hoped would become a story we’d write together. We took that little seed and developed it until we had something that combined my darkness and her creativity into a story that’s deceptively light (we are talking about me, here), thought-provoking, and extremely original. Exactly what you’d expect when an author who writes quirky paranormal romance teams up with someone who writes dark and twisty contemporary.

I never stopped thinking about the story. Neither did Jus. So last week we made a decision: We’re going to write the book, and it will be epic.

The catch? We want you guys to be part of it.

Jus and I are holding a contest/casting call with more than a dozen ways to enter. In addition to receiving ebook copies of all our books (Flawed, Touch, Untouched, and Toxic) and a full complement of swag from the two of us, the winner will get to create a character for the book. Name, appearance, character tics…everything. You can even be the character if you want. Our only caveat is that you not ask us to write a pink polka-dotted elephant (or the equivalent) into the story. Think contemporary YA and the kind of characters that come with the genre.

We can’t tell you guys anything about the story just yet, but we can share the song that started it all.

Intrigued? Enter the contest below for your chance to create a character in the book!

FLAWED is here!

Happy Black Friday, everyone! As promised, the ebook of FLAWED is live on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

I’m so completely in awe of the response to the book so far. Thank you to all the bloggers who devoured the ARCs immediately and wrote what have to be the most fantastic emails and reviews ever!

Want a taste of the book? My publisher has posted an excerpt HERE.

What people are saying…

“Intense, dark, painful, wrenching and stunning, FLAWED is a fabulous debut that dances in the gray areas in the most perfect of ways. This book is one that will leave readers so completely twisted, and utterly drained emotionally by the time the gamut is over.”
A Good Addition

“This book shattered me into a million pieces. It’s beautiful and intense and earth shattering. Flawed takes love and twists it into something deadly.”
Shortie Says

“Beautiful and devastating all wrapped in one heart shattering, soul moving book. Flawed broke me, crushed me whole and devoured my every being. Kate Avelynn created a book so powerful, so gut wrenching.. nothing will ever be the same.”
Words, Pages, and Books

Flawed was one of the best debuts I’ve read, and everyone who reads this book will fall in love with the chemistry between the characters and the intense plot.”
Stuck in YA Books

“An extremely powerful story that’s impossible to classify, Flawed is a book that is compulsively readable despite its depth. There are some books you know you’ll never forget – for me, this is one of them.”
– USA TODAY bestselling author Cari Quinn

“Gorgeously written, achingly bittersweet, FLAWED addresses the deeply complex nature of abuse and its heartbreaking effects on a family.”
Christa Desir, author of FAULT LINE (Simon Pulse, 2013)

Darkly moving, expertly written, FLAWED grabs you by the heart from the first page and doesn’t let go.
New York Times bestselling author Lori Wilde

T-minus 3 days and counting…until FLAWED!

The wait is finally over.

Whether you’re planning to hit the sales, avoid the swarms of crazed shoppers altogether, or need an intense book to distract you from your turkey and pumpkin pie coma, I have a Black Friday treat for you. FLAWED releases in ebook this Friday, November 23rd, on Amazon and Barnes & Noble!

The Cover:

The Blurb:

Sarah O’Brien is alive because of the pact she and her brother made twelve years ago—James will protect her from their violent father if she promises to never leave him. For years, she’s watched James destroy his life to save hers. If all he asks for in return is her affection, she’ll give it freely.

Until, with a tiny kiss and a broken mind, he asks for more than she can give.

Sam Donavon has been James’s best friend—and the boy Sarah’s had a crush on—for as long as she can remember. As their forbidden relationship deepens, Sarah knows she’s in trouble. Quiet, serious Sam has decided he’s going to save her. Neither of them realize James is far more unstable than her father ever was, or that he’s not about to let Sarah forget her half of the pact…

When—and where—can you grab a copy?

  • The ebook version of FLAWED will be available on Amazon and B&N exclusively for the first week or two, with the distributor listing it in all the usual places (both here and abroad) after the initial launch.
  • We anticipate the print book hitting bookstore shelves in December or January. As soon as I have the exact date, I’ll update my book page and tweet about it.
  • Afraid you’ll miss the update? Stop by your local B&N and order your copy at the counter—they’ll email you as soon as your copy is in stock. You can also hit up one of the online retailers and pre-order your copy there. I recommend The Book Depository, who currently has the book on sale for only $7.49!

Everyone has been so awesome about the wait and our decision to move the book from summer to the fall season. Now that release day is almost here, I’m excited to share the book with readers. I can’t thank you guys enough for all the support and enthusiasm you’ve shown me and FLAWED these last few months, and for voting in the contest that won me this fantastic cover. While I know the book won’t be for everyone, I’m glad to have found such a fabulous community of readers, bloggers, and friends. Hope to see you all on the blog tour later this year!

Exciting updates!

Happy Labor Day everyone! Whether you’re hanging out in the sun with the hot boy or girl of your dreams or curled up with a fabulous book, I hope everyone is finishing off their summer vacation right. Eyeing this picture, I’m thinking about adding a long walk around the lake with Resident Hottie to my To Do list.

It’s been awhile since I checked in, so I thought now would be a fantastic time to pop in and say THANK YOU to all the bloggers and readers who have been endlessly supportive of FLAWED and of me since Entangled Teen announced they’d picked up the book. You guys are incredible. Seriously. No way, no how, would I be as excited to be an author if it wasn’t for all of you.

This being said, I have some news I’d like to share.

As many of you have already noticed, FLAWED was moved from its original July 2012 release date to the more cozy Fall 2012 season. While I’m pretty desperate to get the book into everyone’s hands (see above—you all rock!), I’m thrilled with this change. Fall is *the* season for fabulous books and I’m honored to get to be part of that excitement. And really…a dark book like mine? It’s going to feel that much creepier when read on a stormy fall night.

There’s been some speculation over whether the book will release in October or November—I’m going to say November, just to be safe. If the book hits Amazon and B&N a few weeks early, awesome. Those of you who notice will get to grab a copy before anyone else. (If this happens, I’ll whisper about it here and on Twitter—don’t worry!)

I’ve also received a lot of emails regarding availability—too many to respond to individually. Again with you guys being made of awesome. Rest assured, print copies of Entangled Teen books are available online and in bookstores all over the place. And FLAWED will be available in ebook on its official release date, whenever that may be! I’m partial to print books, especially when they have a cover like mine (THANK YOU everyone who voted for this one in Entangled’s contest!!), but I love my Kindle Fire. I totally get the ebook thing.

Another fun question I’ve been asked this week is whether my swag will be for sale on my website. Right now, the answer is no. I plan to give away swag to the lucky winners on my blog tour, and just gave a TON of it away at the RWA conference in July (if you snagged a YARWA bag, you have one of 100 specially-made FLAWED swag packs!). Maybe if demand is high for dog tags and bracelets and such after the book comes out, I’ll revisit this idea then. In the meantime, follow along on the blog tour when it begins and enter as many times as you can!

If you’re looking for ways to get involved with FLAWED’s release, consider grabbing my countdown widget and getting in touch with my publicist Heather Riccio (heatherriccio(at)entangledpublishing(dot)com). With the shifting dates, there may still be spots open on the blog tour. She also handles ARC requests and all that fun stuff so I can concentrate on writing more books. The #DarkDarlings already got a sneak peek at the next book in my queue. I hope you love it as much as they did!

I’m off to see a sexy man about a lake. Happy end-of-summer, everyone. I’ll see you in November…

I have NEWS!!!

And holy crap, is it news!

My dark, contemporary YA romance, FLAWED, has sold to Entangled Teen! The book releases July 2012, and will be edited by the fantastic Liz Pelletier, who also edited OBSIDIAN, TOUCH, and HUSHED. I still can’t believe my debut ended up somewhere this phenomenal. Have you seen their covers? Is it possible to die of luck??

So what comes next? Edits. But also, we get to reveal the cover and the blurb! I’m told both will happen sometime next week, possibly as part of one of those mammoth cover reveals EP is so good at, and possibly including an excerpt (eeee!!), so be watching for more info on that. I’ve seen my cover, guys, and I love my cover. Again with the dying of luck!

Now if only I could stop jumping up and down long enough to finish this website…
